Our

Story

99 Timbers originated from a relationship between a father and daughter, and a 130 year old oak tree.  I have always been interested in woodworking, however, it was never really a priority until one particular incident in 2012.  In the summer of that year, a duratio blew threw our town damaging hundreds of trees, one of which was a giant red oak that had been standing in my mother’s yard.  At the bell, where it flared out, it measured nearly 5 feet across.  After grasping the magnitude of this tree, I realized that it had tremendous potential. I had several ideas of what I wanted to do with these slabs, but the fact that my daughter was getting married the next summer gave me the dream to build her a timeless dining room table as a wedding gift.  When she was a child, I would always ask her, “Are you still my girl,” to which she would always reply, “Yes, Daddy, til I’m 99.”  When I finished her table, I inscribed the number 99 into the corner as a reminder to her of her childhood saying that meant so much to me.  This was the inspiration for my wood studio, 99 Timbers.

100% Repurposed Wood

To date, every piece of wood that I have used has been harvested from, or because of, some type of natural event that has caused the tree to no longer be able to sustain itself.  Most of the trees that I have used have been damaged by the weather.  High winds and heavy snows are prevalent in our area and permanently damage many trees every year. I have cut a few trees down but the only ones that I have taken down for making furniture are already deceased and have just had the fortune of not being blow down yet.  I love the idea of taking something that that has completed its life cycle and turning it into a piece of usable art that can be enjoyed for generations to come.
